How many of you have ever experienced grocery shopping with your children in tow? Many of you I am guessing! Last night I made a last minute run to the grocery store for a couple of gallons of milk and despite my meal planning and writing down a grocery list I still walked out of the store with $64.00 worth of stuff! The truth is, most times I have a hard time saying no to my kids.
My oldest daughter put a couple of items in my shopping cart while my 2 youngest each added a few things, and we purchased a carpet cleaning solution that I didn’t need immediately. I added my items up and about 34.00 worth of products came from my kids adding on to the cart in addition to the extras I bought. I left the store frustrated because if knew if I had just gone by myself I would have saved so much money and had $34 more in my pocket when I returned home. A couple of extras add up quickly!
I share this with you because it is a fact that if you shop with a grocery list you put together from a meal plan you will save money on groceries. In addition bringing children along to shop with me almost always costs me more then if I would have paid a sitter to stay with them for an hour and a half. I am going to commit to shopping from my grocery list that I create while planning my meals this week and I will report back to you how much I spend and whether or not there are any extras purchased that were not on our shipping list. I will also shop when I am able to do so without the kids I challenge you to do the same and please comment below this post and let me know if this tip is helpful.
