I challenge you to start today living your dreams, doing what you are passionate about. Over the years I have had many ideas that I dismissed because I didn’t know how to achieve or accomplish them or I didn’t feel qualified enough to pursue my dreams and I was afraid of failure.
Have you ever felt this way or let your dreams slip away?
Countless hours were spent reading and researching trying to spell out the necessary steps I needed to take in order to accomplish a dream or bring an idea to fruition. Yet, I never took any steps necessary to implement these dreams or ideas I was afraid to start today or any day for that matter.
Why had I discounted my own experiences and knowledge which I had acquired over the years?
Yesterday while talking with and listening to Aandra Bohlen ( Aandrabohlen.com ) from periscope, she called me out. Aandra told me to start today “stop searching for what you can do and do what you already know” what you are good at, what you are passionate about.
In a secret little place in the back of my mind, I had always wanted to write and be a public speaker but I felt I was not as good as others I had heard speak on previous occasions.
Not having the first clue as to how I would go about creating a blog, hosting a site, or making it attractive and entertaining enough for people to actually spend time reading and interacting with me, I just let that dream slip away. Being as ADHD as I was I doubted that I could put my thoughts to paper in a clear and concise way. Writing had always been a painful process!
What I found when I began writing was exactly the opposite! I tended to go off on little “rabbit trails” while speaking, however when I wrote I was able to edit my thoughts resulting in a pretty clear message. I knew I loved God, I loved people, I was a good student and had learned a lot about life, being a mom, running a household, marketing my various businesses over the years and of course some of the ins and outs of social media. I knew each one of us was special and possessed unique gifts and talents that they could share with the world! I had always been good at supporting, encouraging, and coaching others helping them to recognize their own gifts and talents. I also knew that I had the ability to break things down creating a plan of action and I could help others do the same. I thought I was a pretty good mother that took her job, her vocation as a mom very seriously and having 18 years of marriage and 17 years of motherhood behind me, I had learned many lessons along the way from which I could draw from and share with others. Lessons such as how to cook healthy meals, how to save money and live on a budget, how to find fun cheap activities to entertain my children with, how to take necessary time to care for yourself, and so many other important lessons!
Tired of letting my dreams escape me I knew that life was too short and I couldn’t stand by and let life pass me by any longer without taking action so I decided to start today.
I decided to launch my blog though I had no real money to invest in it, and I really didn’t have the first clue about how to build a webpage. What I did have was the desire to learn and build on my skills one day, one step at a time! With that goggle and I became best friends!
I know there are many of you out there that have ideas and dreams that you have yet to act on. I also know that some of you may feel you are not good enough, skilled enough, or knowledgable enough to bring your dreams to reality.
I want to tell you today to STOP wishing and start today doing what you know and are passionate about!
None of us are born all knowing and we don’t become experts by reading and soaking everything up and then doing. Think about how a baby learns to walk. They begin to build up strength but sitting up and eventually they begin to pull up on things. After that they may cautiously start to coast along while holding onto a couch or table, then after a time they start to let go and eventually they begin to take their first steps. They don’t run before they walk and just like a baby, we don’t have to be perfect or know everything in order to begin to take action and work towards something new. We must begin with small steps and when we focus on one baby step at a time, it is not so scary. We can actually see ourselves starting today taking steps toward living our passions!
Perhaps you have underestimated yourself and your abilities. Maybe you let your fear of the unknown stop you in your tracks, or you simply have not realized all of the skills you have acquired throughout life. I hear often from both men and women of various ages that they couldn’t do something for one reason or another.
I challenge you to start today and retrain yourself to talk about what you can do. If you want something badly enough you can figure it out.
Have you ever heard the saying “where there’s a will there’s a way”? I whole heartedly believe this to be true. We all have gifts, talents, and skills that we have picked up along the way. Take a look at what you know now, the skills you have already acquired and figure out a way to use what you already possess to make a difference in the world. Each one of us is different and we bring a unique perspective to the world. There is no one quite like us and though someone may already be doing what we would like to do, we can do it in our own unique way and reach someone that needs to hear what we have to share.
I believe that God equips each of us with what we need however, sometimes we have to step out in faith and take the first step.
I challenge you to step out this week and simply put your goals and dreams to paper, and then go one step further and share them with someone you trust that can hold you accountable. I would be honored if you would share your goals and dreams with me in the comments below. Be still, listen, and trust in God to equip you with all that you need tomato your goals and dreams a reality!
